Florida Timeshares Information - Timeshare Etiquette
Timeshare Etiquette
After you've purchased a timeshare and have established the basic rules that apply to it, there are many other things one needs to look at before they begin using it. There are many unspoken ‘rules' to timeshares which we will refer to as timeshare etiquette. These are things that are not necessarily rules outlined in the contract but they are considered polite to abide by when partaking in a timeshare. In order for you to fully enjoy and experience your time share, you should commit these simple rules to mind.
Always meet or contact those who which you share your timeshare with. This will help solve problems in the future when something goes wrong. Nothings ever perfect and you should never assume that something won't go wrong, and sometimes these problems have to be resolved by you and the others who own time in the timeshare. Knowing who you are sharing the property with will give you a better understanding to their needs and how to negotiate and resolve the problem with them. To better visualize how this works, suppose a heavy storm damages the property and while the company credits the family with the time they lost, their family was set on going on a vacation this year. The lines of communication will already be open if an earlier conversation has occurred and the parties involved may be able to come to a resolution by switching their time. Remember, even though you don't always share the property at the same time with other groups, it is never a bad idea to know them. In the end nothing bad can really come from this except for a confused greeting the first time you contact them.
The next and possibly one of the most important rules to owning a timeshare is clean up after yourself. Now this may seem like common sense but in the world of timeshares far too many people ignore this rule and treat the property like a hotel room. Some contracts may have a clause that holds the party responsible, but many don't and even more companies don't provide a cleaning service after a group has left. Not only will cleaning up after yourself help keep the property clean and beautiful, it will keep the other residents much happier and willing to negotiate with you on other matters pertaining to the property, such as painting a room (If the contract allows).
Be reasonable. A timeshare owner should always keep this phrase in mind whenever they are talking about their timeshare. Being free from normal life and house payments is one of the reasons why people buy timeshares in the first place. So whenever a change comes around the corner, don't oppose it forthright and consider it. Ask yourself “Is this really worth the stress it is causing” and “How will this affect me?” If an owner is flexible they will find that others will be flexible when a change comes around that you support. If someone wants to switch spots and times, take it into consideration, because you never know when you may need to switch times. Being flexible and open is one of the beauties about owning a timeshare so go out and take advantage of it.
Timeshares are often purchased as an economical way to own a property, and for all purposes it generally is, but too often do people regret their decisions after purchasing the property simply because they did not follow some of the general etiquette to owning a timeshare and due to this their whole experience has been soured. If a timeshare owner can follow these simple etiquettes of owning a property, they will be immensely more satisfied with their investment, both financially and emotionally.
