Florida Timeshares Information - Exchanging Your Timeshare

Exchanging Your Timeshare

The beauty of timeshares is the ability to trade and sell your time at them. If for whatever reason you are not able to use the time you purchased to the fullest it is easy to rent out your time to another party or even trade times with someone else at the resort. This sort of flexibility is driving the timeshare industry to becoming more and more popular and a great alternative to the traditional vacation. If that scenario were to happen during any regular vacation involving renting a house or a hotel there would either be a huge cancellation fee or cancelling would be impossible and you would lose all the money invested into the property. With timeshares this sort of nightmare will never happen.

There are many different options when it comes to exchanging time at your resort. You may decide to sell it to another outside party or possibly exchange your time for an equal or even greater amount of time during a different season that you may enjoy at a later date when your schedule. The whole process is rather easy and depending on your type of contract with the timeshare agency, there are many different options when passing time to another party.

The owner has the most freedom and control over the property with a deeded contract. This means that the timeshare agency is actually handing over real ownership to the property for the time you purchased and you actually own it much like buying a house. The disadvantage of that is the contractual process and paperwork side of things are almost as complicated as purchasing a second home but with this complexity comes great rewards. The owner of a deeded timeshare now owns that time as long as the contract and resort stand. It can be sold, rented, used by others for free and its ownership can even be passed down in wills when someone passes away. A right to use contract acts a little differently from a deeded one in the sense that the owner of the timeshare actually only receives the right to use it, as the name implies, on the weeks that he or she has purchased. This means that the contract has to be continuously renewed and ultimately the agency still holds onto actual ownership of the property. Luckily this does not play a huge role when one is trying to pass their time too another party. The only real area that this has an effect on is that usually the contract and timeshare property cannot be passed down in a will when it's based on a right to use.

One of the greatest features of a timeshare is the ability to trade time. Not only on a one to one basis but using the timeshare as a trading tool. It's not uncommon for many timeshare owners to trade weeks at their timeshares for weeks at other residents timeshares. With this option always open to timeshare owners, it's unlikely they will ever have a boring vacation. One of the greatest attributes is that if you happen to own a popular week or time during a very busy season you can trade it for even more time in a less popular location or during a less popular season. In any given year at your whimsy you may turn your two week vacation into a whole month. Or you can get away this year from the usual timeshare and make it a special occasion and stay at a timeshare in some exotic location that you traded for. This is one of the main attractions for timeshare owners and it's truly and unique experience. Timeshares offer so much more than vacation houses or hotels and for those luck people who end up trying out a timeshare, few are likely to disagree.
